FTC Statement
Pursuant to 16 C.F.R. 225 (rev. 10/2009), Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising, and under the complete, moronic misaprehension that what I am doing here is somehow related to promotion of a product…
BE IT KNOWN that I have in the past accepted the literary equivalent of a schwag bag and/or illegal contraband. Yes, I have succumbed to the easy pressure of accepting free books in the past. And it’s not like I no longer do it. It’s just that nobody is offering them since the economy went into the shitter. Well, almost nobody. I think there is one in the mail, or something. But I have in the past accepted books from Pyr, Laughing (Bouncing?) Kangaroo, BPS, and several others that I don’t recall. If I get books in the future that find their way to the review blog I’ll update this page with the titles, because for some unknown, bullshit reason the FTC wants me to do that.
But if I do, you can bet your bottom dollar that I won’t compromise an unfavorable review in order to maintain access to authors for interviews and blog content and/or a steady stream of free books. Seems to me that is what some book review blogs are all about. That, I consider to be shameful and immoral, and I won’t do it. Here at the OBR you now got that goin’ for ya.
