In the spirit of the approaching Halloween, and in honor of the launching of the new AMC television series, which will also happen on October 31st, I have redrafted this review (one I have always hated).

I make no secret of the fact that I am a full-fledged, dyed-in-the-wool, zombie aficionado. Even though horror generally is not where my literary or cinematic interests lay, if I am being honest I have to say there is very little that I will not stop doing or put down in favor of a gorey zombie movie or book. I disagree about the daoligue and that each character reads the same. I’ve just finished the series and am reading it again. There are several times where I had to lay the book down and cry because it affected me so much. I find the book to less about zombies, and more about survival, community, family, friendship what are you willing to do to live and protect those you love? For my money, it’s the best comic series I’ve read and years and only continues to get better. I’ve honestly dropped many traditional titles since starting the “Dead”, as the characters in other books have started to seem very flat by comparision. Kirkman keeps surprising me, and he takes the characters places that I wouldn’t expect them to go. I’m sure the TV series will be edited, but only for the sake of pacing for the medium. I don’t think the script of characters need much polish, if any. I’m actually hoping to see some differences in the TV series if for no other reason than to add new elements of surprise. I’m sure they will keep the essence of the book in tact, but diverge where necessary. I’m in for the whole “Walking Dead” ride at this point.

I think it is the best one that I have ever read too, Vivien. Despite the shortcomings that I do see, I am in love with the series. And to be fair after I wrote this I realized that the repetition was probably because Krikman was putting so much time into developing the TV series.
