I have never really been a fan of light-hearted humor in my SF reads. I personally cannot stand Terry Pratchett, for example, and even Douglas Adams sometimes pushes me to my limits. I guess I just don't see the need because I like for my SF to resonate heavily with social issues, and I think comedy really takes away from that.
